Rustfire (Su): Any creature damaged by the incorporeal touch or ranged bolt attacks of a Rustfire Witch must succeed on a DC 18 Will save or become engulfed in rust-colored supernatural flames. While these rustfire flames deal no additional damage directly to the creature's health, however the affected creature and all worn metal weapons and armor suffer the same amount of damage dealt from subsequent rustfire touch attacks. This damage to items bypasses item hardness, potentially weakening or destroying metal gear.
Creatures under the effects of Rustfire glow as per faerie fire, making them easier to target, and their metal possessions are visibly corroding and weakening. This effect persists for 10 minutes and can only be extinguished before its duration expires by a break enchantment, miracle, remove curse, or wish spell—the effective caster level of the Rustfire is equal to the Rustfire Witch’s HD (CL 6th for this variant).
Any creature entering the same square as a Rustfire Witch or striking it with a melee attack must succeed on a DC 18 Will save or also begin burning with Rustfire, even if the attack would not otherwise harm the Rustfire Witch because of its incorporeal nature. The save DC is Charisma-based.
Rust Aura (Su): The Rustfire Witch is surrounded by an aura of rustfire out to a radius of 20 feet. Any within this aura must succeed on a DC 18 Fort save or be sickened for 2d4 rounds. A creature that successfully saves cannot be affected again by the same witch's witchflame for 24 hours. The flames also illuminate a 40-foot radius. Metal weapons and armor that enter into this aura have a 50%(Magic Items have a 10%) chance of becoming rusted and weakened, taking a permanent -1 penalty to damage rolls, and Armor Class. The save DC is Charisma-based.
Environment: Ironwash Mire
Organization: Solitary
Treasure: Standard
The Rustfire Witch is a spectral entity born from the haunted waters of the Ironwash Mire. It embodies the destructive power of rust and decay, with flames that burn a deep rust-red, mimicking the iron-rich waters from which it arises. This variant witchfire haunts the dense swamps, preying on the unwary, its form barely distinguishable from the mists that rise off the rust-stained waters. Its touch corrodes both flesh and metal, leaving behind little more than rust and despair. The Rustfire Witch's haunting presence is as much a part of the Ironwash Mire as the iron itself, a guardian of decay that stands sentinel over its desolate, beautiful domain.
